Natural Botox? The Plant That Relaxes Wrinkles (Without the Injections)

If you’ve ever stared at your frown lines in the mirror and wondered if you should finally give Botox a try, you're not alone. I’ve had the same thoughts. But here's the thing: I’ve been digging into the research on a little plant that might just be nature’s answer to Botox.

It’s called Paracress, or Acmella oleracea, and it’s about to be your new skincare crush.

What Is Paracress?

Paracress is a tropical plant traditionally used in South America for everything from toothaches to immune support. But its standout compound—spilanthol—is what gives it its nickname: the “natural Botox.”

Spilanthol has a slight numbing effect (yes, it actually tingles on the skin), but even cooler than that, it helps relax the tiny muscles under your skin. This softens facial tension, especially on the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes, without the frozen look.

Does It Really Work?

I had to see what the science said. Multiple studies have now tested serums and emulsions made with Paracress extract:

  • One study found that a 2% Acmella oleracea serum applied twice a day for 28 days reduced wrinkle depth and skin roughness in a small group of volunteers.

  • Another study tested creams with 3% and 5% extract and found both versions were safe, stable, and able to deliver the active compound into the skin.

  • The 5% cream in particular had excellent absorption and structure, suggesting it may offer stronger results for mature or textured skin.

To be clear, this isn’t an instant result like Botox. But over time, Paracress appears to support smoother, firmer skin while also providing antioxidant protection. That’s a win in my book.

How to Use It

I haven’t tried a serum myself yet, I'm still researching a clean, high-quality brand, but I plan to test one over the next few months and share updates with you.

Here’s what to look for when shopping:

  • A concentration of 2–5% Acmella oleracea extract, ideally with spilanthol listed in the ingredients

  • A serum or cream that’s stable (stored in a glass bottle is even better)

  • Bonus points if the formula includes other antioxidants, since Paracress works well in synergy

Apply it to clean skin, focusing on expression areas like the forehead, crow’s feet, or nasolabial folds. Use morning and night for best results.

Final Thoughts

Botox is a neurotoxin, and personally, it’s something I plan to avoid as I continue to age. That’s just my choice. To each their own.

If you're looking for a more natural way to support your skin and soften lines over time, Paracress might be a gentle, research-backed option worth exploring. It’s plant-based, non-invasive, and actually works with your body rather than shutting anything down.

I’ll be trying it over the next few months, and if you’re curious or experimenting with it too, come chat with me in the Starter Community! I’ll be tracking my progress and sharing updates there, and I’d love to hear your thoughts or answer any questions.

xo,
Paola
